The Becher's Brook Surgery

Special features

Dispensing

[Photo of a scientist filling test tubes] If you live more than a mile from a dispensing chemist, we are permitted - if you wish - to supply your medicines ourselves. This is enormously convenient as in most cases we have a stock of what we commonly prescribe, and are able to supply prescribed medications at the time of the consultation without the delay and inconvenience of having to take the prescription to a chemist.

This system also introduces extra levels of safety and sophistication: all prescribing and dispensing is done through our computer which automatically checks that the quantities and doses are correct, that you are not allergic to the drug and that you are not taking any other drugs that might conflict with the new medication.

You can find out how to order repeat medications in "How To".

No Appointment System

How can this be? virtually every professional service is run to appointments. But we recognise that illness is unpredictable, and that waiting for days to get an appointment can be worrying and frustrating. We also recognise that different problems need different amount of times to be spent on them - it is illogical to give a 10 minute appointment routinely with no idea of how long a problem will take to be dealt with.

So you can come and see the doctor in any of our surgeries without telephoning beforehand - all we ask is that you arrive between the times that we advertise (see "How To") and be prepared to wait - it is impossible to have no appointments without there being a queue on the day - but we think you will find the wait worth it, for the convenience that it gives you.

Minor Surgery

[Photo of a butcher] Simple skin lesions, skin cancers, moles, cysts and blemishes are dealt with routinely without the need to attend hospital and endure long waiting lists. Thanks to the kindness of our patients, we have a very well equipped treatment room where these services are carried out quickly and efficiently.

Disability Access

[Disabled-wheelchair logo] It was very hard to find a suitable building in Fovant to use as a Doctor's surgery, and Becher's Brook is indeed on two floors. However we have parking immediately outside the surgery with a wheelchair ramp. The Doctor's consulting room is on the ground floor but if you need to attend the nurse or the upstairs consulting room, we have a stair lift - again thanks to the generous donations of our patients.
