The Becher's Brook Surgery

How to

See the Doctor

Turn up with no appointment between 9.00am and 10.00am Monday to Friday, or between 5.30pm and 6.30pm on Tuesdays and Fridays. You do not need to telephone in advance.

Always try to come early - and be prepared to wait - you will be seen.

(Why come early? It is a common "tactic" to come a few minutes before the close of surgery in the hope of walking in to an empty waiting room. Not only does this rarely happen - but what is far more likely is that the GP sits in an empty surgery for half an hour and then has to hurry through a large number of late arrivals before going out on visits and his other commitments. Please always come early.)

See the Nurse

Meg can check your blood pressure, look at minor injuries, give travel advice and immunisations, do smear tests and attend to many minor ailments. She can also be seen in surgery times, often more quickly than the GP - just ask at reception.

Make an Appointment

[Photo of a page from an appointment diary] If you would like to see a doctor outside our standard open surgery hours please telephone the surgery or ask at reception. Some things take longer and are much better suited to an appointment. Minor operations, Insurance or HGV Medicals etc are examples of this. If in doubt, ask a receptionist.

Get Forms Signed

We are frequently asked to sign Passport Applications, Private Insurance claims, and all manner of documents. Please do not take up surgery time with these administrative matters; simply leave the forms at reception and they will be completed within a couple of days and await your collection.

There is usually a charge made for the completion of non-NHS forms.
